In November, Samsung launched the Jelly Bean update for Note 10.1 Tablets in Germany and from this year it's now available for Europe and Indian regions as well. The update is available using both Over The Air (OTA) update from the device itself and via Samsung Kies. Even though OTA is an option, as the download size of approximately half a GB, I would recommend you connect the device to a computer and use Samsung Kies to perform the update.

Yesterday night, I updated my Note 10.1 using Kies and documented the entire process hoping it would be helpful for my readers. So let's see how it's done.
Note:If your device is rooted and you have installed a custom recovery on it, I am afraid you cannot perform the upgrade. The reason being when you root your device it increases its binary flash count, which when checked while upgrading, refuses the update. Step 1: Download and install Samsung Kies on your computer if you don't have it already. Once Kies is installed, restart your computer and connect your Note 10.1 via USB cable. Make sure you have enabled USB Debugging from Android Settings–> Developer option and your device is at least 70% charged before connecting the device.
Step 2: After you have connected the device to the computer, launch Samsung Kies and wait for it to detect your connected Android. If an upgrade is available for your device, you will see a message saying that New Firmware is available.
Step 3: The upgrade doesn't wipe the device, but still taking a backup would be a wise decision. To take a backup, click on the Back up/Restore tab and take a full backup of your device. After you have backed up your device, open the Basic Information tab again and click on the Firmware upgrade button.

Step 4: Kies will show you some warnings and ask you to confirm some terms.
Step 5: Kies will then download the firmware upgrade and once it's finished, it will begin the flashing process. The device will then reboot in download mode and install the upgrade. The flashing is a 2-step process. In the first step, it will download the upgrade and then again restart the device. In the second step, it will flash the firmware.
Step 6: After the upgrade is complete, the device will reboot and optimize all the previously installed apps for the newer version of Android.
There is a lot of new stuff on Jelly Bean for Note 10.1 and some of which you should check out first are the new floating apps that have been added. Also, don't forget to try Google Now and S-Voice.

How To Flash Stock ROM On Your Device
Step 1: To get started, download Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000 USB driver and install it in your computer. Once done, download the stock ROM of your device and extract the zip file to get the '.tar.md5' file as shown below.
Step 2: Next, switch off your smartphone. Once done, boot it into the 'Download' mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down, Power and Home buttons simultaneously. Now your Samsung device will vibrate. Once you have felt it, keep pressing the Volume Down and Home buttons (leave the Power button) and your device will boot into the Download mode.
Step 3: Now you will see a 'Warning' message as shown below. Just press the 'Volume Up' key to continue.
Step 4: Next, download Odin and extract it to a folder in your computer. Once done, click on 'Odin3.exe' to launch its window.

Step 5: Now connect your smartphone to the computer using the original USB data cable. If you have installed the USB drivers of your device properly in the Windows computer, Odin will automatically identify your device and will show a 'Added' message in the 'Log' section.
Step 6: Next, click on the 'AP' button and select the '.tar.md5' file (from Step 1).
Step 7: Once the Samsung stock ROM file is added, click on 'Start' button in 'Odin' to launch the flashing process.
Step 8: Don't do anything during the flashing process. Once it gets completed, you will see the green 'PASS' message as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 9: Now unplug your device from the computer. But when you try to boot your device normally, it will get into a boot loop. To fix this error, switch off your smartphone and boot into the 'Recovery' mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons simultaneously.
Step 10: Once your device boots into the recovery mode, click on 'Wipe data/factory reset'. Once done, click on 'Reboot System Now' as shown in the screenshot below.
